The daily paper of the Socialist Labour League, 1969–1973: a searchable archive of the scans

About this site

A finding aid for Workers Press, not an edition of it.

What is here

Every issue the Encyclopedia of Trotskyism On-Line holds, from no. 1 (27 September 1969) to 30 June 1973: 708 issues. ETOL's scans stop there, so the paper's last years as the WRP's daily, to its replacement by News Line in 1976, are not covered, and some issues are scanned with fewer pages than were printed.

The text

The scans carry no text of their own. The text here was read from them in October 2026 by machine (macOS Vision, reading each column separately), and has not been corrected. It reads the body of a page reasonably and the front pages badly; stories run into each other where columns meet, and headlines are not reliably separated from the text. It is here so that the paper can be searched. For anything you quote, read the scan, which every issue page links to.

Writers

The writers index is built from the bylines the OCR reads cleanly. It is a guide to who wrote for the paper and when, not a complete count.
